Accreditation

Accreditation refers to a process that a college or university undergoes in order to receive assessment from an impartial organization in regards to their faculty, curriculum, and course schedules. Schools that receive accreditation have proven that their school lives up to certain regulations set in place by the state and the accrediting agency.

In order for a school to be allowed to receive student aid, especially federal student aid, for those enrolled in their programs, they must be recognized and accredited by a national accrediting agency of association. A list of the accredited schools can be obtained from the U.S. Department of Education.

When looking for loans and aid for college, it is important to make sure that the school you are applying to is accredited. If it is not, you will have a hard time finding loans for your education. Today, most schools are accredited, allowing their students to receive loans and aid for their education.
